Spotify friends feeds is a great new feature from the App, which lets you know what your friends are listening to. But many users are facing issue with the Spotify that Friend activity feed not working on Spotify after the recent update. Some users have completely disappeared from the feed list. Friends last activity says 2 days ago even though they’re listening to music now.
over 350 million active users, Spotify is used by many across different platforms including Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. Ever since it first came out in 2006, Spotify has become one of the most used music streaming services.
As per multiple reports, those using Spotify on Windows and macOS have been facing a problem where the friend feed is not working properly for them.
Basically, users of the Spotify desktop app are getting an empty friend feed with the ‘Connect with Facebook’ prompt. The Spotify friend feed stays empty even when users are able to successfully connect with Facebook.
Also, generic workarounds like reinstalling the Spotify app are also not helping users which is further complicating matters for them.
The issue has been around for quite some time now and is preventing Spotify users on Windows and macOS from seeing what their friends are listening to on the app.
A Spotify Community Moderator created a dedicated thread for this issue with empty friend feed way back in August 2021 stating that the relevant teams are working to fix this problem.
How to fix Spotify Friend Feed not updating for users on desktop : Windows 10, Macbook , iPhone 2021/2022
Fix : Restart the device
One easy solution to fix Spotify friends' feeds not working on desktop, quit Spotify and restarted the computer which should easily fix it.
Fix : Update new settings of Spotify
It seems that the last update turned off sharing for some reason even the account settings and noticed Publish My Activity is turned off., please ask your friends to turn that ON.
Spotify recently updated the "Share my listening activity on Spotify" setting so that it defaults to "off", giving users greater control over how their listening activity is shared with others on Spotify.
To enable sharing your listening activity with your followers in the desktop app "Friend Activity Feed" sidebar:
Go to Settings --> Social --> Turn on "Share my listening activity on Spotify" in either the desktop app or mobile app (this is a global account setting so it only needs to be turned on once in either app to apply to your account)
To turn on the "Friend Activity Feed" sidebar in the desktop app:
Go to Settings --> Display --> Turn on "See what your friends are playing" OR go to the File Menu --> View --> Click on "Friend Activity"
Fix : Check Facebook account status
The Spotify Friend feed will not work if it is not in sync to the Facebook account using “Connect with Facebook”/ Social account you used. Check if you have not deactivated your Facebook account, if so then the Friend activity feed will disappear.
Fix : Try unfollowing/re-following friends
Due to some issue your Spotify friends list may not be updating properly and to fix that try unfollowing all your friends and logout & quit the app. Open the app and after login follow friends again.

Thanks for reaching out on the Community! We've moved your posts to a relevant Help Board where they fit better.
We can confirm that the default setting for sharing your listening activity with friends was changed to off with recent releases. This means that those who had it on before without explicitly setting it on, now have it switched off. This would explain why they aren't in your feed any more.
You can let your friends know of this change and ask them to turn it on in their settings if they want to share their listening activity.
