Google Chrome lagging crashing or freezing issue for iOS users after latest app update

Chrome is undoubtedly the most used browser on the planet with millions of users. And despite the native Safari browser, many iOS users also prefer using chrome for surfing the internet.

Having said that, Google recently released a new update for Chrome on iOS. This update carries some sorts of performance and stability improvements.

However, rather than improving the user experience, it seems that the latest update has broken the app in a way that users are not able to use it.

As per reports, users say that Chrome is not working on their iPhones after the recent update and it is constantly crashing. As a result, those affected took to Reddit and the Google community forum to raise their complaints.

As apparent from the reports above, something is clearly broken in the latest version of the Chrome app on iOS. According to the reports  the app has become completely unusable after the update.

Users say that they have tried to fix the issue by reinstalling the app or clearing the cache/data, but no luck. However, on the bright side, there are some workarounds that help users to get rid of it.

Fix 1 -

So basically if you are on a mobile network (5G or 4G) you are totally fine without any issue. But if you are with wifi and with discovery enabled then you got the issue.

Fix 2 -

My fix was to turn off the network (cell and wifi), launch the app, then once I’m in it, turn the network back on.

Fix 3-

“ The problem is under “Discover” in the new tab.

My solution is first to switch your iPhone/iPad to Aeroplane mode and disconnect Wi-Fi, start the chrome with a new tab, disable “Discover” and switch off the Aeroplane mode and switch on “Wi-Fi”.”

Hope it helps

If any of the aforementioned workarounds does not help you get rid of this issue, then you’ll have to wait until devs fix it. Unfortunately, neither Google nor Apple has acknowledged this issue yet and we hope that it gets fixed soon.

For those still having issues with Chrome, here’s another workaround to try suggested by one of the affected users. You can try it and see if it helps.
