Many iPhone, iPad users are facing issues while adding or connecting to Airtags. The Airtag won’t connect and it gives the error "Maximum Items Added - To add AirTag, open FindMy to remove one of the items that is paired to your apple id." The issue is seen with different iPhone models like iPhone 13/12 Pro, Apple Watch and iPad Pro etc. Even when users have no Airtag added still the iPhone is showing an error that it has reached the maximum limit.

Airtag not adding on iPhone max items error iphone 13

As per some reports the maximum number of Airtag with an Apple ID is 16 but even when only 3 or 4 devices are connected to the iPhone/Apple, it still gives Error while connecting to AirTag that "Maximum Items Added ". This seems to be an annoying issue as the apple id cannot add another airtag.

How to fix the iPhone won’t connect the air tag and say there’s a maximum item added ? : iPhone 13/12 Pro Max, iPhone X, XR, XS MAX : iOS 15

If you are not able to connect Airtag and not have 16 devices connected and getting error “Maximum items added – To Add an AirTag, Open FindMy to remove one of the items that is paired to your Apple ID”,  then please try below steps to check if it helps.

Fix : Signout from Apple ID

If you are not able to add Airtag to iPhone and it keeps on showing max device error then you can try a workaround which is to sign out of the iCloud account on iPhone and then sign back in.

Doing this will allow you to add another AirTag but you may again start seeing the error if you try to add another AirTag “Maximum Devices Added” error. To fix that try again Logging out from Apple Id and  add another Airtag. Seems like you have to do the workaround for every new device.

Fix : Disconnect Devices

Apple counts each device as a unique connection, meaning if you have left & right Airpods connected then it will be counted as two connections. So those who can’t add the AirTag and don’t have 16 items/ devices added,  it’s recommended to remove all AirPods from find my and Bluetooth and that usually works.

·        Go to bluetooth in your settings

·

Click on your AirPods and click forget

this device

·

Put your AirTag next to your device

and press connect

·

From there you should have the

decision to choose your item. Once connected, you can connect your AirPods back

to your device.

Fix : Remove Tracking device

One other claimed solution is that when you're adding an AirTag the Find My app mistakenly counts all the devices and items you're tracking to decide if you're at too many, and the answer is to remove a device, add the AirTag, then add the device back.

Fix : update Devices

The issue is reported to be linked with the Airpods firware update and after the changes the issue started to happen for many users. As the permanent fix for the issue will be rolled out by Apple and therefore we recommend to keep updating Apple devices to the latest updates.
