Halo Infinite is the latest installment in the iconic Halo franchise. The game has been available since mid-November 2021 on Windows OS and current generation Xbox consoles (Series X/S).
Recently, Halo Infinite received its Season 2 update with multiple additions and changes. However, some gameplay tweaks are not being liked by the community.
Apparently Halo Infinite Season 2 brought an unexpected ‘gun jamming’ mechanic to the gameplay. But, its effects on matches are frustrating many players.
What is Halo Infinite Season 2 ‘gun jamming’?
‘Gun jamming’ is an effect that causes weapons to ‘get stuck’ during a flurry of fire. Halo Infinite is not the only game that implements this, as it is present in other FPS that seek to be realistic.
However, the Halo franchise was never about being realistic, and that’s why players weren’t expecting the implementation of a ‘gun jamming’ effect.
Gun jamming occurs randomly, so it can cause unexpected deaths in battle. In the following video (original source) you can see the effect of gun jamming in Halo Infinite:
Halo Infinite Season 2 ‘gun jamming’ frustrating players
That said, many Halo Infinite players are expressing their annoyance regarding the ‘gun jamming’ effect that the Season 2 update brought.
Anyone else getting random BR jams in the middle of a gun fight? Never happened prior to this update and I’ve almost lost a gun battle because of that.

Wtf @halo come on 343 why are weapons jamming. Wtf this update is a big let down. Still no answers for cheaters still. Nerf things that didn’t make sense and piss off almost the whole community. Good way to start season 2 of with a bang….. sorry my gun jammed.

Official acknowledgment, a couple of workarounds
The company is already investigating on the matter, according to a 343i Community Manager. They are currently collecting information and will provide further updates on the issue in the future.
Hey Austin – the team is going to take a look into these reports. We’ll follow up when we have more info!

Meanwhile, there are a couple of workarounds that reportedly help mitigate the issue. However, neither fully resolve it, they just reduce the effects of gun jamming.
First, it seems that much of the blame for the problem is a new Halo Infinite Season 2 stock setting where trigger outer dead zones are set to 100% by default.
So, a potential workaround is to reduce the trigger outer dead zones (left and right) to 55% from the game settings:
They added new trigger outer dead zones default at 100%. They only go down to 55% but it still affects gameplay. It’s game breaking when your BR jams in a firefight and lose only because of it.

Also, as an alternative, you can turn on the ‘smart triggers’ option:
PSA for those who have a scuf instinct and play Halo Infinite. Your gun doesn’t jam if you turn on the smart triggers for whatever reason. I would assume the same happens if you use the trigger stops on the elite series 2.
