Rose Namajunas defended strippers in row with UFC icon Ronda Rousey

Rose Namajunas will defend her strawweight title this weekend against Carla Esparza, but once boldly called out UFC legend Ronda Rousey in her defence of strippers

UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas once defended strippers from MMA legend Ronda Rousey.

Former women’s bantamweight champion Rousey caused a stir when she slammed “do-nothing-b****es” back in 2015. The UFC Hall of Famer claimed her mother taught her to avoid being the “kind of chick that just tries to be pretty and be taken care of by someone else”.

While Rousey’s overall stance towards gender roles and body empowerment was commended by some fans, she faced backlash from fellow UFC fighter Namajunas. Thug Rose, 29, took to Instagram to slam Rousey’s criticism of “do-nothing-b****es” while showing her support for strippers.

She wrote: “To this whole dnb craze I don’t care if you do something or do nothing just don’t be a b****. Let’s be nice and not judge other lifestyles or don’t and just be an unhappy person over there lol.”

Namajunas added: “And as far as Ronda goes I love her and what she’s done but I think her message is misinterpreted. I don’t think hurting and punching people in the face for millions is any better than using sex to make millions.

“I like the positive message about body image though, just think people are taking it the wrong way. Some of the coolest people I’ve met are strippers and down to earth loving people so just don’t judge others is my point. Good day.”

Two-time and current UFC Strawweight Champion Thug Rose has swept through her division in recent years, beating all of her last four opponents. She faces Carla Esparza this weekend, who beat her in her 2014 UFC debut.

While Namajunas now boasts an MMA record of 11-4, Rousey’s last fight in the UFC came in 2016, a year after her comments during the peak of her powers. The 35-year-old decided to call it quits after being knocked out in two straight fights and is currently signed to the WWE.
