Facebook is celebrating Pride Month and so are the users as the platform offers Pride filter photo frames for users to change their profile pictures.

Pride Month allows people to celebrate themselves and gives a chance for others to show their support. As always, Facebook is also showing its support by bringing back the filter that has been used by many in the month of June.

Just like Facebook, Instagram also has its own way of showing its support for Pride month.

Why is Pride Month celebrated in June?

As per Newsweek, Pride Month is celebrated every year in June because it is a product of the Stonewall Riots that took place in June 1969.

The riots were followed when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a bar in New York City, where the LGBTQ+ community often hung out. People got angry when it was reported that employees of the bar were arrested. The riots lasted for five days.

While there had been several other instances where the LGBTQ+ community faced discrimination, the Stonewall riots were the first ones that received media attention. Due to this, Pride Month is celebrated in June.

How is Pride Month celebrated?

Pride Month is celebrated in a number of ways and you can be a part of them too. To begin with, several parades are organized worldwide to allow people of the LGBTQ+ community and their supporters to come together.

At the same time, there are many volunteering options that are available that allow people to give back and help the community. That being said, Pride Month does not have to be limited to June as you can still campaign for the LGBTQ+ rights even after the month ends.
