There is a great selection of filters available to users on Instagram, many of which are created specifically for the app. The “Waves” filter is one of the most popular filters on Instagram at the moment, created by one of the photo-sharing app’s users.
The new wavy filter is often applied to a person in motion, recorded as they walk or dance, or even as someone is standing still. It creates a hilarious wavy effect that makes the person in the frame look as though they are dancing. And recently, users on TikTok have taken up the viral filter to animate their dances or prank unsuspecting family members.

HOW TO USE THE WAVES FILTER ON INSTAGRAM
Open the Instagram app on your device. On Instagram, click on the “Add Story” to open the camera view and access filters. Swipe through the available filters to the very end to go to the “Effects Overview” button. In the search bar at the top, type “Waves” and find the one that belongs to the user “kar.ina_”. Or click on this link to open the effect in the Instagram app. Now you can create stories or videos using the filter.
HOW TO USE THE WAVES FILTER ON TIKTOK
The “Waves” filter is trending on TikTok under various hashtags, most notably under ‘cumbia wave effect’. That’s because many of the videos posted with the wavy effect are soundtracked by Grupo La Cumbia’s single Cumbia Buena.
To upload a ‘wavy’ TikTok video, you must first create the video in the Instagram app. To add a track, click on the sticker icon after recording a video with the “Waves” filter and click “Music”. Look for a song using the search button (or search Cumbia Buena) and select it from the list. Use the slider to adjust the part of the track you want to use in the video and tap “Done”. Now you can post the video in your Instagram story or save it by selecting the three-dot icon in the upper right corner and clicking “Save”.
The video will be saved in the phone gallery and can now be uploaded onto TikTok.
