Twitter is one of the most popular social networks. The microblogging platform differs from others primarily through its character limit.

While on other social platforms there are no limits to write text (or the limit is very long), Twitter offers a maximum limit of 280 characters.

So, Twitter posts are often characterized as ‘straight to the point’. Also, the social platform has been receiving some new features in recent years.

For instance, Twitter also offers ‘Spaces’, through which you can organize meetings with voice chat.

The latest Twitter feature is the ‘Downvote’ button. This button allows you to flag comments that may be irrelevant, offensive, etc., just like on Reddit.

Recently, the Twitter ‘Downvote’ button was massively rolled out to more users. But, it seems its position is not the most convenient, at least according to some.

Twitter ‘Downvote’ button placement causing problems

Currently, the button occupies the same place that the ‘Like’ button occupied before. According to multiple reports, this is causing inconvenience to some users.

The Twitter downvote button is placed more or less at the same position where the like button used to be placed earlier, and my thumb has still not got used to the same.

You @Twitter not a fan of this dislike/downvote button that I keep hitting on accident because get on Twitter when I’m drunk and muscle memory exists. But also like, we don’t need a dislike button do we?

Some users accidentally downvoting tweets

The main problem seems to be that some users are accidentally downvoting tweets when trying to press the ‘Like’ button.

The positioning of the Twitter Like button has been the same for years. So, millions of users already have it mentally assimilated, to the point that they can press it almost without exactly looking.

But now, the usual position of the ‘Like’ button is occupied by the ‘Downvote’ button, which complicates things.

Twitter put the downvote button on comments where the like/heart used to be. I’ve accidentally down voted so many last couple days. My apologies, people. I blame SkyNet 🤣

Twitter put the downvote button too close to the heart button and now I am forever paranoid on here that I’m gonna hit the wrong one and not notice.

For the time being, users of the social network can only wait for their complaints to reach the ears of the Twitter team. That way, they could consider a change in the button positioning in the future.
