How to enable dark mode in fitbit app

 Fitbit is a popular consumer electronics and fitness company. Its products are very useful as they help monitor multiple fitness-related stats on the go.


The company mainly produces smart wearables, along with physical fitness monitors and activity trackers such as smartwatches and pedometers for heart rate and sleep quality monitoring.


However, like any other popular fitness brand, Fitbit’s app and products also suffer from occasional bugs and issues.


For instance, we recently covered a story where Fitbit Charge 5 owners faced issues while syncing with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold & Flip phones after the Android 13 update.

And now, several Fitbit users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) seem to be unhappy with the app’s interface due to the bright white mode.


Some have been requesting the company to introduce a dark mode option in their app for the past few years. Some were hopeful that after the acquisition of the company by Alphabet, things would change, but nothing happened.


According to a Redditor, the bright light mode hurts one’s retina up to a large extent, and its practically not feasible for one to keep on staring at such a bright display.


For instance, it may be very difficult and problematic for someone who suffers from occasional migraines or headaches to stare at the display on a regular basis.

Some other customers also feel the same and have repeatedly urged the company to add a dark mode option.


Some felt so agitated due to this problem that they have reportedly stopped using the app.


Adding the dark mode option in the Fitbit app will not only offer a nice visual experience, but also help save battery and protect their eyesight. This feature can also be a boon for those who are visually impaired.


But it seems the company isn’t interested in implementing the feature for whatever strange reasons, at least not for now.


While we don’t currently have plans to release this feature, we always appreciate the passion and creativity that comes out of this Community.



Potential workaround

While the developers are yet to make a comment on the matter, we did come across a potential workaround that may help solve the problem for some. Android users can try to force a system-wide dark mode.


However, it should be noted that in order to make such a change on Android-based smartphones, developer options must first be enabled.

You may also need to restart the app or even the entire phone after making the changes in order for them to apply. We’ll keep an eye on this matter and update this story to reflect noteworthy developments.
